School Safety Plan
At South Bay Union School District, student and staff safety is a top priority. Each school’s Comprehensive School Safety Plan (CSSP) is part of a continuous and collaborative effort to ensure a safe learning environment. Plans are reviewed annually and updated as needed, especially after critical incidents. The review process involves coordination between District Business Services, local law enforcement, and each school site’s safety committee.
Each CSSP includes, among other components:
- Procedures for emergencies such as fire, earthquakes, and intruders
- School discipline and student conduct policies
- Protocols for child abuse reporting, discrimination, and harassment
- Disaster and crisis response planning, with considerations for students with disabilities
- Coordination with law enforcement and first responders
- Bullying and cyberbullying prevention efforts
Safety plans must be reviewed, practiced regularly, and adopted annually by March 1. They are developed in consultation with school site councils or safety committees that may include school staff, parents, students, and community partners.
